Blood Pressure To High

by Bret Finnego

It is important to get your blood pressure checked at least one to a couple of times in a year and possibly more regular especially if you have had a family member who has suffered with higher than normal blood pressure. If you suffer from high blood pressure and it goes untreated then you are at risk from heart attack or stroke.

Our hearts are beating continually and as they beat they pump blood around our bodies through our blood vessels. Blood pressure is the force against these blood vessels made by the blood as it is pumped. So the heart pattern is pump rest, pump rest and so on. When the heart pumps the pressure of the blood in our arteries is at its highest and this is the systolic pressure which represents the first reading of our blood pressure. When the heart rests this is the diastolic pressure which represents the second reading of our blood pressure.

If you have a reading of 120 systolic/80 diastolic then your blood pressure is normal and this would be a blood pressure of 120/80 said 120 over 80. You would then be a healthy normal adult. You could have hypertension ( High blood Pressure ) if your reading is any higher than 120/80.

Say that your result was 145/95 then your blood pressure would be classed as high. Your Doctor may ask questions about your lifestyle to see if any changes can be made to remedy your high blood pressure reading. You would then have to return to the Doctors office and have regular BP checks.

If you have room in your lifestyle forsome good healthy changes then this is what your Doctor will target with you first if you continue to get higher than normal BP readings. It would be wizse at this point to think about these changes seriously.

If you smoke or drink more than the advised units of alcohol or if you are over weight then this can be a cause for you blood pressure to be high, but there are other things that can cause high blood pressure. If you make some proper adjustments to your lifestyle then it is possible to lower your BP without drugs.

If you do not manage to bring your blood pressure down naturally then you may have to go on medication to bring your blood pressure down. There are many different drugs that can be prescribed by your Doctor to normalize your blood pressure and you may be tried on several different types before the right one that suits your body.

Bringing your blood pressure down with lifestyle changes will spare you from medication and there possible side effects.

This is why it is important to have your blood pressure checked, Many people are at risk of stroke or heart attack because they have high blood pressure and don't even know it, they are living with a time bomb. High blood pressure is known as the silent killer because there are not always any kind of symptoms that you have it.
