Whether you know it or not, your spiritual journal begins the moment you are born. Your spirituality develops and grows as you move through the different stages of life. Throughout your lifetime, you interact with other human beings and run into a variety of life situations. These life situations can cause many different kinds of emotions to erupt within you. If you are unaware of these emotions, you don't recognize them or express them. Instead, you ignore them and stuff them down deep inside. This can be more damaging to your spiritual journey than you may realize.

Thankfully, you are surrounded by helpful people and useful tools, which can assist you in your spiritual development. There are a variety of self-help programs, DVDs, videos and more. Spiritual teachers travel all over the world, speaking to crowds of people who are ready and willing to learn. Licensed therapists or psychologists can also offer assistance. If fact, many therapists and psychologists recommend using a journal in order to help bring you into awareness about your thoughts, choices and emotions. When you express your emotions into the pages of a journal, it is a safe form of release. All of our emotions are energetically charged. Positive emotions carry a positive and healing energy charge while negative emotions carry a harmful and negative charge. These negative emotions, when not fully expressed, stay stuck within our physical bodies. Over time, they manifest into disease and illness. That is why expressing emotions is such a necessary component of enhancing spirituality.

Children are often notorious for holding in their emotions. This is exactly the reason why so many parents give their children a diary or a journal. Being able to express emotions and articulate feelings is a necessary step in personal development. The younger you are when you start opening yourself up and expressing your emotions, the easier it will be for you when you become an adult. Unfortunately, many adults give up the process of journaling when they reach a certain age. They believe that they are "too old" to journal or that they "don't have the time." The fact is that journaling is just as useful to adults as it is to children and adolescents.

If you are on a spiritual journey and you are looking for ways to enhance your spirituality, consider picking up a journal. There is no right or wrong way to use a journal. If you are having an emotional day and you aren't sure what you are feeling or why, then open up a journal and begin writing. Your subconscious may surprise you because you might end up writing about something that you have been holding in for a very long time. Journals are especially important if you are going through a rough transformation period in your life. Our thoughts and emotions are helpful friends who are always honest and truthful. Use them to learn and grow as you muddle through the uncertainty of life.

Therapists and psychologists often recommend the use of a journal for individuals who are uncomfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions. But if you are unable to be honest with yourself, you won't be able to be honest with your therapist. A journal can give you a safe and secure place to express yourself. And the next time you have a session with your therapist, bring your journal along. Read what you wrote, or summarize what you wrote. You will be surprised at what a difference it will make. You can also use a journal to record your dreams. Dreams often give us insight into our subconscious, and by analyzing our dreams we can help deepen our spirituality. Whenever you wake up from a vivid dream, write it down. Discuss it with your therapist or a friend, and they might be able to help you make sense of it. Spirituality essentially comes down to learning and growing from your mistakes, and that takes a great deal of courage and honesty. It may be difficult and sometimes painful, but the reward is worth it. A journal can help make the process easier. It's yet another spiritual too for those individuals who are interested in deepening their spirituality.

Dr. Seth is one of the finest San Francisco therapist who provides consultation and supervision services to individuals and couples. He practice as an analytical psychologist who has received lot of awards and honors in the past.

"I do not remember whether I have a migraine headache because of depression or I was depressed about my migraine headache" A client joked to me.

"I do not remember whether I have a migraine headache because of depression or I was depressed about my migraine headache" A client joked to me.

It doesn't matter if it is a joke or not. Depression and headaches are always interlinked .

When you first get the pain one tend to say of course she is depressed because she is in pain. But it is not the only reason.

Chronic depression is nothing but depression lasting more than six months and it is not because of any depressive episodes like death of loved ones etc. A recent study has suggested that 67% of people who suffers from migraine headache also suffer from chronic depression.

This number is too high to be ignored. Keep in mind that this study was evaluating chronic depression, not migraine headache.

Another research shows that 40% of people who suffer from chronic depression also suffer from chronic pain like back pain or head ache. Does that mean depression causes migraines?

Moreover, this same study reported that for those who experienced pain with depression, the depression lasted an average of six months longer than with those who did not experience pain.

But other experts do believe that many people report tension headache symptoms but this is actually the symptoms of depression. This is 4 times higher in women than men.

They both share the same platform. Still it is not clear whether depression causes headache or headache causes depression.

In fact, research showed that treating one condition with medication for the other did show some promise. Evidence suggests that both conditions involve serotonin receptors and transporters.

This is the part where I get on my "soapbox" and preach - be careful! Medications to treat both migraine headache and depression can have very serious side effects and can be largely trial and error.

Even FDA has warned about combining certain migraine medicines and antidepressants. Medications for migraine can cause life-threatening condition known as serotonin syndrome.

When you suffer from chronic headache or depression don't be afraid to ask for natural treatment. I do also suggest to speak to a professional about your symptoms.

If you suffer from migraine or tension headaches, I highly encourage you to try my Migraine and Headache relief program. The all natural breathing and relaxation exercises are highly effective and results have been proven!

Taking advantage of local mental health resources has definitely lost the stigma that was once attached to it. It is now readily received and actually commended when a personality disorder is discovered, identified and treated regardless of who the person happens to be or his or her status in the community. As is always the case, there are many types and instances of severity whenever there is a discussion of mental illness and subsequent disorders, and these are best left to the experts to diagnose. In the state of Ohio there are many prominent Cincinnati psychiatrists who are prescribing treatment for their patients and observing huge numbers of rehabilitative successes. Many times drugs are part of a treatment plan along with individualized counseling. In addition, there are also quite a number of Cincinnati psychologists whose clients are experiencing positive results as a result of targeted intensive counseling and expert follow up techniques to prevent relapses.

Unfortunately there are others who deny that a disorder could possibly exist that cannot be handled without the aid of a physician. These same people often will allow the mental disorder to advance to a point where extreme intervention must be applied making healing a needlessly lengthy and agonizing thing. Early detection is always valuable with any physical or mental ailment and what follows is a list of signs that a problem could exist:

Trouble sleeping: Insomnia is a condition that signals a person is not getting restorative sleep and therefore is lying awake at night usually worrying about something he or she cannot control. There can be many causes of insomnia that can range from physical to mental reasons but it should not be ignored when it does not go away after a week or two.

Excessive sleeping: Sleeping too much can be a valid sign that something is not right and should always be checked out by a doctor. This can be an obvious sign of situational or human contact avoidance suggesting that someone is not dealing well with everyday events.

Racing thoughts: Random thoughts that cannot be reined in and that seem to be bombarding a positive outlook on life are a real indication that all is not well. This type of mindset is damaging because it does not allow for routine problem solving because it engages so much energy just regenerating such thoughts.

Social avoidance: Being around other people is a way to be interested in another human being and to forget (at least for a short time) your own problems. Whenever a person determines to stay away from other people in favor of loner activities such as watching television, playing video games or even working excessively it is a sign that they are turning inward and it is not a healthy lifestyle habit.

Abusing drugs or alcohol: This can often be a sign that a person is attempting to self-medicate due to the fact where their existence has become excruciatingly full of pain. Although it can mistakenly be thought of as an escape for life problems it definitely leads to even harder to control behavior and is always detrimental to a person.

Connor R. Sullivan recently contacted a group of Cincinnati psychiatrists to interview them for an articles he is planning to write. He made arrangements for a group of Cincinnati psychologists to provide counseling for his high school students.

How do you discern you are having a panic attack? Recognizing panic attack symptoms can be hard. People have been admitted to the emergency room of a hospital thinking they were having a heart attack when, in actuality, they were suffering from panic attack symptoms! To help you circumvent anything that spectacular, here are five of the most frequent symptoms.

1. Heart Palpitations

You might be suffering from panic attack symptoms if you suffer a racing heart or even chest pains that do not extend to your left arm. Nevertheless, it is always judicious to have chest pains checked by a doctor as it may possibly be a symptom of something more precarious.

2. Sweating Excessively

If you have ever given a speech, and felt the sweating that frequently precedes your big moment on stage, then you will realize precisely what I am talking about here. Sufferers of panic attack symptoms can suffer excessive sweating at any time. Therefore, if you are noticing that you become very damp, very suddenly, and especially if you are suffering other symptoms, chances are you are experiencing panic attack symptoms.

3. Abdominal Discomfort

A variety of abdominal symptoms are experienced by a lot of panic attack sufferers. You may well want to seek panic attack treatment if you have nausea, 'butterflies' or other inexplicable abdominal distress.

4. Difficulty Breathing or Speaking

From hyperventilating to a constricted throat that will not let your words out, this is a common panic attack symptom. If you find yourself having problems breathing or speaking, combined with one or more of the other symptoms here, you may perhaps find that you are suffering from a panic disorder.

5. Unfounded Fear

Irrational fear is what panic attacks are all about. This is ordinarily a generalized, all encompassing fear. Even if you realize there is nothing to be frightened of, it is not controllable and you cannot shake the sense of apprehension.

If you learn yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, or more than one, speak to a medical practitioner, and get diagnosed. Panic attack symptoms, and the underlying disorders, can be treated. So do not suffer in silence!

Robert Hardy reveals how to cure panic attacks completely and naturally. He discovered a remarkable method on how to cure panic attacks that has helped thousands.

At some point in their lives, most people have some type of personal problem or question that they need to work through. Sometimes a person can work out a problem alone, but often having someone to talk to can make the process go more quickly. Discussing ideas with another person can bring out aspects that a single person would not think of. In Arizona, Scottsdale therapists can provide the fresh point of view that is needed. In Phoenix counseling is available from many sources.

There may be other times when you can work out things yourself or by unburdening to a loved one. If you opt for this path, you want to select the friend carefully. The best friend/advisor is thoughtful and unbiased and able to see both sides of the question with objectivity. If you bare your heart to someone who can see only your side, you might as well just talk to yourself. A friend who sees only your side of the story will only reinforce your view of the situation when maybe you should take a different path. This is the most important trait of a therapist. A therapist is trained to maintain objectivity and will help you to see both sides of the question.

No matter how you choose to attack your problem, there is one tool that is useful in any situation. Start keeping a journal. A journal provides a way for you to converse to yourself. A journal is different from a diary. A diary is a running record of your activities. A journal, on the other hand, is a private place to record your thoughts, feelings, and ideas. You may or may not write in it every day; its purpose is to be there when you have something to say. It may take practice to get used to writing on paper your deepest, private thoughts, but, as with any other activity, practice will make it easier.

Another tactic that helps is to keep the words flowing even when your mind is a blank. Just put down every thought, even if it seems insipid and meaningless. See what I mean? I just did what I just suggested. Eventually something of worth will come out of your pen. When that happens, you will be off and running. The reward of keeping a journal is that, at some point, you will read what you have written and see a gem of wisdom. In surprise, you will say, "Wow! I said that!?"

You can find a variety of fancy journals in stores such as bookstores and card shops. These can cost more than you want to spend. A fancy book may be nice, but it is not necessary. The best journal is an inexpensive spiral notebook from the dollar store. I have one last caution. You need to find a good hiding place for this journal because the temptation to read is all but irresistible to the person who stumbles across it. If you know your family is trustworthy, you might tell them it is there but sincerely request that they respect your privacy.

General Anxiety Disorder or GAD is in all probability the most prevalent form of the phrase 'panic attack'. For this reason, numerous folks are seeking a means of managing depression without medication.

Studies have established that some type of anti-depression drugs are recommended to over 20 million individuals in America annually. However what should be the main reason for concern are the numerous side effects all too often suffered by those who use these antidepression drugs. Helpful as they may be for a time, it's been demonstrated that these depression medications cause a number of negative reactions that might include an unsettled stomach, low energy, insomnia and libido difficulties. Accordingly, a good number of folks are seeking a system of managing depression without medication.

If you'd like to take a crack at dealing with your depression issues in a more natural fashion to prevent these significant adverse reactions, you may want to consider doing yoga. Yoga and its soothing movements and poses tend to considerably increase the brain's alpha waves (associated with relaxation) and theta waves (your unconscious thoughts, emotions and dreams). This discovery is established on a research study that measured brain waves previous to a two-hour yoga session, and once more following the session.

Because of the heightened activity of these brain waves, people are inclined to have more contact with their subliminal thoughts and emotions. Moreover, following a yoga session, alpha wave activity becomes elevated in the right temporal area of the brain. Studies have demonstrated that individuals with depression are inclined to experience more alpha activity in the left frontal-temporal region, whereas optimistic, outgoing individuals have more alpha activity on the right side.

In addition, when yoga is performed, a notable reduction in the hormone known as cortisol occurs, along with an increase in the hormone prolactin. This is considered by a good number of experts to be the main factor in achieving the anti-depressant outcome of electroshock therapy.

If this all appears a bit too high-tech, maybe a less difficult example of how yoga is effective for depression treatment might be that it exercises the brain's motor centers. This causes the blood to flow away from the center of emotional activity; this means that you become more open to positive thoughts.

Just doing yoga poses will not be enough to control your depression. You also need to incorporate breathing exercises (called pranayama), meditation, (which can be grounded in your religious views) and a healthy diet. These are all significant aspects of the yoga ideology that will make a difference in your mental health.

So the next time depression strikes, you may do well to try a new prescription for managing depression: yoga. It won't harm you, and it could possibly help you immeasurably.

Depression is a much more serious condition than just feeling a little blue. It's a real problem that can affect all aspects of a person's life, from their job to their relationships.
