Dance Teaches Love of Music
Dance is synonymous with music and when your child takes dance lessons it will teach them to appreciate music. Much of the dance concept is interpreting music into movement. Here are some ways that dance can help your child to understand music.
Rhythm is the thing that joins music and dance together. This is one of the first things a young student will learn when they start dancing lessons. A fun way to learn about different rhythms is by Eurhythmics. This is when students hit sticks together in a certain rhythm, as they walk around. In this way they will learn different dance rhythm patterns like; waltz, march and polka etc. When they hear music the students will be able to pick out the rhythm patterns and dance to the beat.
Melody in music will set the mood of the piece. An important part of dance is mime, or actions telling a story or mood without words. The melody of the music will aid in telling the story. The students will learn to recognize and understand the music by the melody. This will help them to appreciate music as certain pieces become familiar to them.
Young students really need to get to know the many different types of music that are used. Classical music is mostly associated with ballet but other music can be used. Understanding music properly is easier said than done for many people, but with the help of a suitably qualified teacher, it will eventually come.
Interpreting music is a fun thing for a child and will let them increase their creativity. This will help them to like the music even more as they will associate it with the fun dances they did at school.
Classical music is often used in dancing and exposing young children to this music early on is a great thing. A long love of more mature music styles such as classical comes directly from early experiences like those received through dance lessons.
A good school is very important for a young dancer's progress. Too many people just settle for the easiest option available and subsequently their child gives up dance because they can't experience the enjoyment that they should be able to get from it. The key to a good school is accredited teachers that specialize in children, a good curriculum and quality conditions and equipment.
A good dance teacher will have a strong rapport with their students, they will be creative and they will have credentials to show that they can teach children. Many dance schools take the easy route by using their older students to teach the younger ones. This is a great way for a school to make money but it won't satisfy the students or their parents. There is a science to teaching, it isn't just something that people make up as they go along.
