Fast Weight Loss for Busy Moms
One reason why contestants on the Biggest Loser have great success is that all they have to do is lose weight. They aren't commuting to a stressful job, keeping young children busy all day, cooking for a family, or all the other daily life activities that can make it hard to find the time and energy to lose weight.
But busy moms can lose weight quickly and safely following a few simple rules.
1. Stop drinking calories. Switch from sugary colas to diet. Swap mochas for skinny lattes with sugar free vanilla. Drink skim milk instead of whole (you can transition to low fat first). Stop drinking juice (eat fruit instead). The best switch is to drink more water. By swapping high calorie sodas and other drinks with diet and low calorie options you'll save hundreds of calories a day without sacrificing your thirst.
2. Play! Exercise isn't just about losing weight; it's about keeping the body working right. The older you get, the less efficient your body can get especially if you don't move it. But you don't have to join a gym or run a marathon. Bundle the kids up and go outside. Play tag or hide-n-seek with them. If your child is a baby put him in a stroller or better yet a baby pack and go for a walk or hike. Consider taking a class... a dance class, tennis lesson...whatever sounds fun to you. The key is to make exercise something that is fun not a chore.
3. Make better food choices. Dieting is no fun. But eating better doesn't mean your food can't be good. Its as easy as swapping refined foods such as white rice for whole grain ones such as brown rice. Add veggies and fruit to every meal for the nutrients and fiber (which is filling). Find ways to make your favorite foods less fattening.
4. Stick to a serving. Many people don't realize that their weight problems come from the fact that they don't know what a serving size is. They think the small package of chips is a serving when in fact its 2 or 3 servings. Even healthy items can contribute to weight gain if you eat too much of it. Learn to check labels for serving size is and if necessary, measure what you eat. If you find you're still hungry when you stick to a serving, drink water or tea, or have an apple to help fill you up.
5. Have healthy snacks. Skip the high calorie snack options such as chips and instead have healthier options. Air popped popcorn with spray and popcorn seasoning is a filling high fiber snack. Almonds, peanut butter with celery or an apple, vanilla yogurt, and frozen berries also make healthy snacks.
6. Eat treats in moderation. No one wants to live out their life never having chocolate. It is possible to eat healthy and still indulge in a treat. I eat chocolate daily, but I limit the amount to 150 calories. If you like ice cream, choose the low-fat, low-sugar options that has up to half the fat and calories. You can have your cake and eat it too, as long as its in moderation.
Losing weight with simple changes is not that hard. You don't have to change your lifestyle completely to make better choices about what you eat. In fact, switching your high-calorie drinks and food for healthier alternatives, playing with the kids, and watching how much you eat can lead to fast weight loss.
