foods that burn more calories – do they actually work?

by Kevin Prott

One trip to the bookstore will show that dieting in America is more than a fad; it's a fullblown phenomenon. With a record number of people obese in the nation, sometimes it seems that there are even more diets than there are people who need them. With so many options available, sifting through them to find the perfect one can be quite a challenge. Adding to the confusion is the fact that each person's body responds to a diet differently from other people's.

You may be one of the many people who love to snack, we all do and there is nothing wrong with enjoying the odd snack here and there. The problem is when you snack too much, making your diet nonexistent and you end up unhealthy because of it. What if there was a diet to help combat this problem. What if there were foods that enable you to lose weight just by eating them?

Indeed there are such foods! In fact, there are more than you might even realize. Called "negative calorie foods," these make excellent snacks because the energy exerted as you eat them actually benefits your diet. This makes it a pleasure to lose those unsightly pounds.

It is important to remember that there is actually no such thing as a negative calorie; no food can have negative calories. These foods just have extremely low calorie numbers, making them perfect to eat when trying to diet. The theory is that these foods that burn more calories than what is going in do this as they require more energy to be able to digest them. This in turn burns calories and then helps you to lose weight quicker.

The negative calorie foods we're about to discuss will do two things for you that will help you on your dieting quest. First, as we mentioned, they will burn more energy than they actually contain. Secondly though, these foods all do a good job of making you feel full. As a result, you stop eating before you're temped to bite into something less healthy like that bag of cookies or that piece of pie.

Here are some of the best negative calorie foods we've discovered.

Apricots: Rather than eating a fruit-filled pie, just have the fruit. This sweet, delicious fruit will satisfy that craving you have nicely.

Cucumbers - Great 'grow your own' food. Easy to add to any meal.

Carrots: These are a perfect snack when you're craving something with crunch.

Strawberries: Let's face it, the best part of strawberry shortcake are the strawberries, so skip the cake and just eat the delicious, healthy part.

Watermelon: There's no better summertime treat than this low-calorie, juicy snack.

Tomatoes are low in calories and make great additions for salads and sandwiches.

Cauliflower - Great to eat with literally anything, and can be cooked in many different ways.

Zucchini is another food that can be cooked in a variety of ways, and has only 15 calories per 100 grams.

Apples: Several things have long recommended apples. First, they taste great, and are incrediblly satisfying. Second, because they are hard to digest, the body uses a lot of energy (in the form of calories) to do so. Third, they only contain about 80-some calories anyway!

Hot Chilli Peppers: Okay, maybe you won't be snacking on this one by itself too much. But peppers make for an outstanding condiment! Skip the mayo on that sandwich or the high-fat dressing on the salad. Instead, replace them with hot chilli peppers. You'll love the taste and your body will love the low-calorie count.

There are many more negative calorie foods that you can try. Just check out a diet book at the local store or search the Internet. Before you know it, you'll be an expert on healthy snacking.
