Let's face it. Americans have it easy. Shopping malls have escalators and elevators. Our society is built around the automobile. Unless you live in a major city where you can walk to your grocery store, movie theatre, or restaurant. With a suburban lifestyle Americans will spend more time driving to these places than their urban counterparts.
As a nation we should choose to become healthier. Healthy minds and bodies makes for a better productive workforce. Exercising keeps are weight in check, improves are stamina and endurance and makes us physically stronger. Exercise makes one sleep better, combats deep depression and may relieve our need for medications.
European societies have understood the value of fitness. Many of them allow exercise to be part of the working day. These countries find it important to accommodate pedestrian walkways and bicycles lanes. They encourage mass transit and their people embrace it. Less congestion on the roads, less pollution to breathe in.
