Natural Resveratrol Sources
There are many natural sources of the chemical called resveratrol. But it is difficult to categorize the sources in terms as good or better. According to the amount of resveratrol present in the sources they are often termed as good, better and best.
Red grapes provide between .24 and 1.25mg per cup. The variation seems to depend on where they are grown. Boiled peanuts provide between .35mg and 1.28mg. Again, the variation seems to depend on where they were grown or the processing used to boil them.
Boiled peanuts have a higher concentration of resveratrol than raw peanuts. About .35 to 2.13 mg per cup is produced from peanuts.
Scientists must use a different measuring system to test these beverages. Amounts are recorded in nmol/g. Most of the grape juices and berry juices are no better than a negligible source of resveratrol.
It has been revealed that red wine is the best source of resveratrol. But the amount of red wine that one would require to stay young for a long time is bound to be huge. It is to be noted that red wine is the most potent source of resveratrol. But the amount of resveratrol produced by the roots of the Japanse knotweed is much above the other sources, 187mg/kg.
It is believed that all natural wines have some amount of this amazing chemical. But it is the red wine which has got the most chunk of it. The amount that is found in red wines varies.
In all of the studies that have been conducted concerning the benefits of resveratrol, concentrated supplements have been used. Not once have researchers fed grapes to a rat or used a peanut to see what effect it had on a developing cancer cell.
Owing to the benefits of resveratrol people require a huge quantity of it in their day to day life thus they go for resveartrol supplements.
There are some supplements on the market with a very high content, as much as 200mg per serving. A moderate amount, 20-50mg per day is a better choice, as long as the manufacturer includes an enteric coating.
