New Fitness Advice and Trends

The main reasons you go through a fitness routine are probably to elevate the heart rate, sweat off excess calories, and force your body to dip into the stored fat so you look and feel lighter. But, how long have you been doing that same routine? If it's been more than a couple months chances are you need to mix in something new to keep your mind entertained and your body working hard.

Kettlebells: this is an interesting way to tone up, so ditch the dumbbells every once in awhile and learn to swing the bells. These are cast iron "bells" that are shaped more like large circles with flat bottoms and handles at the top. They come in different sizes so you should probably start with smaller ones that weight a little less before advancing on to the larger ones.

What is unique about kettlebells is that you hold them by the top handle which is like a circle and then you swing them in different directions. You can work the entire body and burn massive amounts of calories even in a short session.

The actual kettlebells are being sold all over the place from local sporting goods stores to online retailers. There are also DVDs coming out now that provide at home instruction on effective routines.

Burlesque Dance: dancing has always been a favorite type of exercise because it is something that literally anyone can do yet it burns a nice amount of calories. Hip hop has been popular in exercise classes and DVDs for some time, but more sensual styles such as burlesque are now picking up popularity.

It seems women are now enjoying their bodies as exercise classes on the stripper pole have become extremely popular as well. With burlesque, you can even put on your heels or a feather boa and use them as fat burning props.

Another catchy trend is workout DVDs based on popular TV shows. Do not be surprised to find your favorite reality TV stars smiling on the cover an exercise DVD at a store near you. Going beyond the popular Biggest Loser series, many other TV stars are now taking their chance in the fitness market. Dancing with the Stars has a new one out with Lisa Rinna, for example.

Another popular workout series is with Kim Kardashian. Not only do these workouts provide a little extra motivation by being lead by some of the hottest bodies in Hollywood, but they deliver great workouts as well. Most are not just fluff.

Last but definitely not least, weighted hula hoops are growing in popularity as well. Even if you were not big on the hoop as a child, chances are you will get the core workout of your life with one of these. They are a little different from your childhood hoops because they are made to be different weights, but the spinning motion around the hips and waist is the same.

You don't necessarily need a DVD or other guidance to play around with the hoop and burn off some calories, though you may want to seek some ideas of what to do with it through the internet, a DVD, or a class at a gym.

If you are just starting out with a fitness routine make sure to keep up with the latest trends and shake things up often. If you do the same thing all the time your body will become too efficient and burn less calories, and you will probably get bored and start skipping workouts!
