The Stopwatch Usage List

There are many uses of stopwatches. Of course, its main purpose is to count the time in order for an athlete, coach, or a whole team, to set up time indicators or to mark a progress for future reference. There are others, so if you want to know more about the many uses of a stopwatch, then read on.

Stopwatches are nothing other than hand held devices that clock time for various sports. This includes sports like track and field, swimming, car racing and other types of motor sports. However, stopwatches are also useful for evaluating times achieved when training.

Stopwatches are very handy for coaches that need to time the athlete's performance. To start timing an event, you simply push the button one time and when over you press it again. These are operated manually and used by coaches and trainers in their training and timing of the athlete's performance.

A stopwatch can either have analog or digital technology. It usually resembles a small pocket watch but some designs are made to be worn on the wrist. The big clocks that you see in arenas such as basketball and hockey stadiums are called stop clocks (just in case you're wondering).

A digital stopwatch is probably more accurate than the traditional analog silver stopwatch (they're usually the ones with classical designs such as silver casings and such). A classical analog stop watch is an ideal gift for coaches or trainers who've just won a championship event of some sort. In fact, winning teams of high school or college students often do this.

Although there are different designs and models of stopwatches available, the modern stopwatches can come with a lot of functions, features and modes. This still does not make the traditional stopwatch useless, though. In fact, the standard stopwatch is still able to serve its purpose and is capable of countdowns, recording running times and timing laps. The modern stopwatches do have the advantage of having easier access and higher accuracy, on top of the basic functions of tracking laps times and calculating evaluations.

There are other stopwatches that can store information of records such as 50 laps but some only 10. Once the distance or length of a track is known it is programmed into the stopwatch and then speed and time can be entered. The athlete, with this useful feature, can get an average time which tells the minutes and second to cover a particular distance.

Finally, the basic function of a stopwatch is as a countdown timer. The watch basically counts down to zero by setting it to a specific amount of time at the press of a button. Stopwatches are also used by coaches, trainers, and athletes to measure a workout regimen as well as an indicator that a specific exercise has exceeded a warm up period.
