The Truth Natural Skin Care – What You need to Know!

by Joan Bower

There is nothing new about skin care, it is just in ancient times, herbal products were the only ones available. The use of synthetic products was something that was bound to occur when chemists started experimenting and mass production became available. The natural skin care recipes which once used to be common place are not so popular today and even unknown to a large population.

This transformation from natural skin care to synthetic, can probably be attributed to two things; our laziness or just the fast pace of lives and the commercialization of skin care.

The challenge with the new generation of herbal products is the preservatives that are added to them in the production process so they will last longer; which unfortunately means they are less effective than home made versions.

However, it seems that things are changing fast and more people are now opting for natural and herbal skin care routines. Whilst commercial manufacturers can produce them cheaper then that is how the majority of us will buy them but do you know what they actually are?

Almost everyone has heard of aloe vera but did you know is an excellent skin moisturizer and can treat sunburn, cuts and other skin problems? Other household herbs like dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary are good at cleansing but usually when they are in combination with other herbs.

Nature has also supplies us with natural healing herbs that have antiseptic properties like lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel and people still use rose water and lavender water to help condition their skin.

Tea plays an important part in herbal skin care and tea extracts are used for treatment of skin that has been damaged by UV radiation.

Oils prepared from herbal extracts present another means of natural skin care like tea tree oil, Lavender oil, borage oil and primrose oil which are some of the more popular oils used in herbal skin care.

Bananas, apple and melon have hydration properties and are very good for the skin, which is why so many manufacturers use them in bath and shower gels etc.

There are very few if any adverse reactions to herbal skin preparations which is why they are often preferred over commercially available synthetically produced products and some people still make them at home.

Whilst herbal products will probably remain popular as there are so few reactions to them that there will be times when synthetic products will be necessary for certain skin disorders.

Finally, never disregard the importance of natural skin care and maintenance products because the skin has an important job to do and needs assistance itself sometimes.
